Created for the 1989 Design Expo, the Paper Arbor is comprised of 48 water-proofed paper tubes that fit into a pre-cast concrete base. A compression ring at the top of the structure stabilized the tubes and anchored a tensile fabric roof. The small gaps between the tubes allowed wind and light to pass through softly, and at night, the Arbor turned into a lamp with 48 strips of light.
